Nicholas Kirkwood is Pollini's new creative director

Okay, this is not really latest groundbreaking news, as this was announced about a month ago. Nevertheless it's an interesting thing to know, as Pollini is one of Italy's finest traditional shoe labels and the designer has unique abilities, when it comes to designing astonishing shoes!

From python skin and laser cut mirrors to hand-printed suede and devoré satin, there's probably no other shoe designer who can create crazy things quite like Nicholas Kirkwood. With his innovative, detailed designs combining structural fantasy with feminine style he became the darling of the fashion scene and industry in the past five years. An excellent starting point for a career at a label that has spent a whole century mastering the art of shoe making. Pollini, the well-established luxury Italian brand, which exists since the beginning of the 20th century, has recently appointed Kirkwood as their creative director, replacing fellow Brit Jonathan Saunders.
The fashion house will stop producing ready to wear in the future and instead will focus on what they do best, footwear and accessories. One of his first actions in his new role, Kirkwood launched the Pollini ‘Forward Designer’ Project, a unique collaboration where five select designers had shoes for their SS11 shows produced by the brand. The labels were Preen, Manish Arora, Meadham Kirchoff, Louise Gray and Michael Van Der Ham.

I have to admit that I'm not the biggest fan of the flowery ones, but I really love the red Manish Arora heel! And the bright blue one is great for all women who love to be on trend when it comes to material, but won't wear velvet dresses this summer...
