Designer Look of the day

(burrowed from style.com)

I can't withhold it any longer... After doing a massmarket effective collection for the American department store Target and after they received rave reviews by almost every other blog for their knitwear (both for women and men), I finally have to write about Kate and Laura Mulleavy - the sister duo behind the label Rodarte.
The self-taught sisters (they studied at Berkeley, but nothing fashion familiar - Kate studied art history, Laura English literature) hit the fashion scene in 2005 - hard that is! They are said to have influenced so many other (very well known) labels ever since.
Their collection for spring/summer 2010 was outstanding. The presentation was apocalyptic - the models walked on a sandy runway covered in a poisonous looking mist, created through
dry ice.
The clothes were apocalyptic as well. The designers destroyed ever material they worked with before using it. They cut, tore, burnt, shredded or dyed every single piece of fabric. And those were wonderful fabrics non the less, they said.
The outfit I took from the collection is the most wearable, I would say. At least if you leave out the tribal tattoos their models got painted on and maybe that witchy belt...
And if you don't agree or do not like that collection, then get one of their pullovers or cardigans - cause they are really top notch!
